About Danielle Viegas

Danielle Heberle Viegas is a historian whose research scope encompasses the history of Latin America in the twentieth century and its global connectedness, with an emphasis on urban planning, immigration and environment. At LMU, she is a Postdoc and the primary researcher of the research project "Back to nature: COVID-19, utopia and socio-spatial dynamics in Brazil," funded by the VolkswagenStiftung and their special funding program Corona Crisis and Beyond - Perspectives for Science, Scholarship and Society and integrated into the Radical Utopian Communities project.

In 2015, Danielle Viegas had joined the Lateinamerika-Institut (LAI) at Freie Universität Berlin by means of a CAPES Program/PROBRAL grant. After finishing her PhD in 2016 at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica of Rio Grande do Sul, she became Assistant Professor at Universidade La Salle in Porto Alegre-Canoas, Southern Brazil.

Her field is Urban History, Global History, Environmental History and Utopian Studies, and her interdisciplinary research contributes both to regional and local urban studies in Brazil and Latin America as well as to a global level.
